The sweet strawberries of Switzerland are delicious! We had the fantastic experience of picking strawberries in our friend Jeanne's farm.
Before we went to the strawberry field, we paid a visit to the cows. As we walked into the barn, we were welcomed with a chorus of mooooos. The cows were all crowded in a tiny little space and sticking their heads through the bars. Out the back of the barn, there was a backscratcher for the cows. They would walk through and get a scratch. It look a bit like the spinning brushes in a car wash.
We popped out on the other side of the barn facing the strawberry fields. At home, I grow strawberry plants. So I was really looking forward to eating and experiencing these "professional" (compared to mine) strawberry plants. Row after row of strawberry plants filled the area. I ran to forward and plucked a bright red juicy strawberry. It was delicious. Mum even said they were the best strawberries she'd ever had. They were that yummy.
After we ate as many strawberries as we could eat, we collected the strawberries to have later. I scavenged for the best strawberries I could find. Jeanne (our Swiss friend) told us that when it was harvest time, she would wriggle on her stomach picking strawberries as she went, instead of having to bend down every time.
With strawberry juice dribbling down our chins and strawberry stains on our clothes, we headed back to the farm house via the cows. I fed a couple of strawberries to some eager cows poking there heads at me and mooing loudly. Jeanne's relative made us strawberries and fresh cream. Mmmm... Yummo.
